IST and OCIO holiday schedule 2010-2011

Many Information Services and Technology (IST) facilities and services, as well as services offered by the Office of the CIO (OCIO), will be closed or operating on modified schedules in late December 2010 and early January 2011 because of the semester break, University holidays, and campuswide energy curtailment.

Systems, facilities, and the campus network

Administrative applications will run as normal unless the system sponsor has requested a modified schedule. System support from December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011, will be provided to meet the essential operating needs of each application.

  • BFS will keep regular online hours during the non-holiday days during curtailment, but there will be no online support. Batch jobs will run automatically on the non-holiday nights.
  • CARS will maintain online and batch processing schedules as normal during the workdays for the last two weeks of the year. However, there will be no online support, and Billing and Payment Services (BPS) has asked departments not to submit batch input from December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011. The last CARS refund job for 2010 is December 20.
  • HCM will be closed during curtailment. (Applicant and Employee Self Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.)
  • Imagine will be available but not supported from December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011.
  • PPS will be open only for inquiry during curtailment.
  • All student applications will remain online.

CalNet staff will respond to any critical problems with CalNet systems throughout the holiday curtailment period. Frontline support staff will also respond to urgent customer requests regarding passphrase resets and urgent access problems.

Central systems such as MVS, AFS, CalAgenda, CalMail, the Berkeley Home Page, eRecruit, and Bear Facts will have regular system support during the holiday curtailment period. For up-to-the-minute system status, refer to the IST Service Status website.

Computer Facilities. All labs will be closed December 23, 2010 through January 3, 2011. The specified computer labs below will be open with modified schedules for the remainder of the semester.

  • All instructional facilities will close on the last day of instruction unless special arrangements have been made. See the instructional facility hours web page for specific schedules.
  • All computer labs will resume normal operating hours January 18, 2011. See the facility hours web page to view updated general access facility schedules.
  • Evans Microcomputer Facility
    • November 29 – December 5, 2010: Monday–Thursday, 9:00 am–6:00 pm; Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm; Saturday–Sunday, Closed.
    • December 6 – December 12, 2010: Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–2:00 pm; Saturday–Sunday, Closed.
    • December 13, 2010 – January 18, 2011: Closed.
  • Wheeler Microcomputer Facility
    • November 29 – December 19, 2010: Monday–Friday, 10:00 am–4:50 pm; Saturday–Sunday, Closed.
    • December 20, 2010 – January 10, 2011: Closed. May remain closed until January 18.
  • Life Sciences Microcomputer Facility
    • November 29 – December 19, 2010: Monday–Thursday, 10:00 am–7:50 pm; Friday, 10:00 am–4:50 pm; Saturday–Sunday, Closed.
    • December 20, 2010 – January 18, 2011: Closed.
  • Moffitt Microcomputer Facility
    • November 29 – December 9, 2010: Monday–Thursday, 8:00 am–2:00 am; Friday, 8:00 am–10:00 pm; Saturday, 9:00 am–10:00 pm; Sunday, 1:00 pm–2:00 am
    • December 10 – December 17, 2010: Opens at 8:00 am for 24-Hour Session through December 17, 2010 at 7:00 pm.
    • December 18–19, 2010: Closed.
    • December 20 – December 22, 2010: 9:00 am–5:00 pm.
    • December 23, 2010 – January 2, 2011: Closed.
    • January 3 – January 14, 2011: Monday–Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm; Saturday–Sunday, Closed.
    • January 15 – January 17, 2011: Closed

Campus Data Network and Voice Services (telecommunications) will be operating normally, but support for problems will be reduced during the holiday curtailment period, December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011, inclusive. Support for problem resolution during this period will be at the same level as with after hours support. Problems with network services should be reported to the IST Service Desk, 642-8500 (select option 7 for individual support needs or press 9 to report a building or department-wide network outage). Problems with campus voice services (telecommunications) should also be reported to the Service Desk, 642-8500 (select option 7 for individual support needs or press 9 to report a larger voice services problem). A voice or data technician will be contacted immediately for major outages, individual support needs will be addressed the next business day.

System and Network Security (SNS) staff will respond promptly to all requests sent to and will monitor network and host-based alerts throughout the curtailment. We will respond to standard security tickets that appear to have some urgency, but our response will be slower than usual due to reduced staffing.

Consulting and user services

Software Central will be closed December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011.

Departmental On-site Computing Support (DOCS) will have full service through December 22, 2010. DOCS Support will be closed during the curtailment period, December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011. On-call service will be provided on an hourly basis for clients working during curtailment with prior agreement. Clients should contact to make arrangements.

The IST Service Desk (642-8500) will be closed, but will respond to critical or system outages during curtailment from December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011. For individual support needs, callers may leave a message to be returned the next business day, January 3, 2011. This information is also available on the IST Service Status After Hours Support page. The IST Shopping Cart is expected to be available during the holiday curtailment period. However, orders placed from December 22, 2010 through January 2, 2011, will not be processed until January 3.

Informatics Services (Museum Informatics Project) will be closed December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011.

Social Science Computing Laboratory (SSCL) will be closed December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011, and will reopen January 3.

Student Computer Consulting Services (SCCS) will be closed December 20, 2010 through January 9, 2011. Limited assistance via email will be available during the break at The SCCS Help Desk will reopen January 10, 2011.

Technical Account Management (TAM) will be closed December 20, 2010 through January 2, 2011, and will reopen January 3.

Holiday hours for Office of the CIO services

Strategic Technology Acquisition will be closed December 21, 2010 through January 3, 2011, and will reopen January 4.

The Technology Program Office (TPO) will be closed December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011, and will reopen January 3.
