IST has received the second in a series of server donations from Broadcom Corporation. These servers are currently available to campus departments.
The donation consists of approximately 300 three- to four-year old Intel Xeon and AMD Opteron compute servers. These servers are rack-mountable "2U" devices with no operating system, displays, or other peripherals. Specifications for both types of servers include 2 NICs, IPMI and PXE booting support, and one disk 32GB or larger:
- AMD Opteron(TM) Processor 248, 2.2GHz, 64-bit, 2 single-core processors , max 230W under load
- Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.06GHz, 32-bit, dual-core processor, max 200W under load
These servers may be used for any of the following purposes:
- CalHPC (high performance computing service)
- Colocation in the Data Center
- Local use
