In early 2008, System and Network Security (SNS) began offering the Proventsure software suite to the campus community as a tool to help campus users identify restricted data (SSN, credit card, financial accounts, etc.) stored on campus computer systems. Unfortunately, the Proventsure software suite has been discontinued, and SNS was unable to extend the campus license past the current expiration date, July 31, 2009. If you are currently using one of the Proventsure tools, "My ID Protector" or the GCP scan clients, your software will not function after July 31.
Fortunately, SNS has acquired a replacement tool to continue the work of locating campus systems with restricted data. The new tool, IdentityFinder, is now available free of charge to the campus community. IdentityFinder offers a GUI application for self-scanning, as well as a management interface for creating scheduled scans and viewing results for multiple hosts.
To get started with IdentityFinder, email with your request and we will send you the link to the software download. If you are a department admin scanning multiple systems, please indicate the number of users (not systems) you need to scan and whether or not you are interested in the management interface. SNS will be scheduling a Security SIG meeting that focuses on IdentityFinder in the near future.
