The CollectionSpace project is hosting three webinars to introduce people to CollectionSpace, the open-source, web-based software application for the description, management, and dissemination of museum collections information. Webinar participants will get an advanced look at CollectionSpace; meet the design and development teams; learn about the software's advanced architecture, functionality, and user experience; hear about the production schedule and deployment plans; and learn how to get involved with the project. Each webinar will focus on a different target audience and will conclude with a question-and-answer session.

Background
CollectionSpace is a collaboration that brings together a variety of cultural and academic institutions with the common goal of developing and deploying an open-source, web-based software application for the description, management, and dissemination of museum collections information. We are developing CollectionSpace using a service-oriented architecture (SOA) to maximize the flexibility and extensibility of the application. The openness of the software will allow it to be connected with other open-source applications already in use by the cultural and biodiversity sectors and higher education including those for archival management, online exhibition creation, digital asset management, and specialized research tools. The project is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and led by the Museum of the Moving Image (New York City); University of California, Berkeley; University of Toronto; and the University of Cambridge. For more information about the CollectionSpace project, see the CollectionSpace website.
Information about CollectionSpace at Berkeley can be found in a recent iNews article, Collection management systems for campus museums: CollectionSpace 0.1 released, and on the IST–Data Services Blog.
