The CalMail team will begin transitioning CalMail's IMAP, POP, and SMTP access to CalNet authentication on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at 9:00 am.
Given that CalMail serves approximately 65,000 accounts, the switchover of accounts to CalNet authentication will be staged over at least a one-week period (five business days) to handle the anticipated support load increase. CalMail accounts will be cutover to CalNet authentication during business hours, alphabetically by CalMail login.
For users that have not yet converted their mail clients to use their CalNet passphrase, once their accounts have been converted, they should expect to see error messages the next time they check or send email. Existing IMAP sessions will continue to function until the mail client attempts to log in again.
As a reminder, there are guides in the IST Knowledge Base to assist with setting up CalNet passphrases in email clients. Go to http://kb.berkeley.edu/ and enter your email client (i.e., Thunderbird, Outlook, Eudora, etc.) in the search box.
The Service Desk will be available by phone, 642-8500 (option 2, then 1) or email, to assist users having difficulties.
