As announced in the recent article UC Berkeley
voicemail system update, Cal Voicemail, the new campus
voicemail system, is scheduled to deploy September 26, 2009. Departments should be aware that orders for new voicemail service received September 18 and later, will be processed after the September 26 deployment date.
Before September 26
If you would like to get a head start and set up your Cal Voicemail mailbox and record your greeting, you can do so effective September 17.
- Dial 642-1869 to access the Cal Voicemail system.
- If you are calling from the phone line you are setting up the Cal Voicemail mailbox for and that line has Caller ID Block installed, dial *82 then 2-1869.
- If you are calling from a phone line that is different from the one you are trying to set up a Cal Voicemail mailbox for, when prompted, enter your mailbox number — the 7-digit telephone number of the line for which you are setting up the voicemail mailbox.
- Enter your security code (the default is your 7-digit telephone number).
- Follow the prompts to complete the following steps (if you wish to bypass the voice prompts, follow the "speed"
instructions provided for each step below):
- Choose a new security code (Speed: enter new code, press #. Repeat to confirm.)
- Record your name (Speed: press 2 to start recording, press 2 again to stop. Press 5 to save.)
- Record your greeting — be sure to include your name in the greeting (Speed: press 2 to start recording, press 2 again to stop. Press 5 to save.)
Effective September 26
All new messages will go into the Cal Voicemail system beginning September 26.
- Dial 643-5530 to retrieve your messages. If you are on CalPBX, dial 6-2626.
- If you have not set up your mailbox and greeting beforehand, dial 643-5530 and enter your 7-digit telephone number. You will be guided through the setup process.
The current UniBears voicemail system will no longer receive messages. However, messages already in the system will be available until November 2, by dialing 642-1869.
Managing messages on the Web
- If you are currently subscribed to the UniBears Voicemail Enhanced or Unified Messaging services, you will be able to manage your Cal Voicemail messages online. To log on, go to https://calvm-access.berkeley.edu/ and enter your 7-digit telephone number and your security code. Note that you must first set up your mailbox by telephone in order to log on.
- You will be able to access your existing messages in UniBears via the UniBears website until November 2.
Because the UniBears voicemail system will not be available after November 2, 2009, and UniBears messages are not transferrable to Cal Voicemail, you are advised to take care of all your UniBears messages before November 2.
