Changes to the University's cell phone policy have been proposed based on recent clarification of IRS regulations. Under the revised policy, the University would provide a taxable cash allowance to employees who need cell phones to conduct official University business. The IST Cellular Devices and Services group is developing a plan to assist departments with the transfer of University-owned phones to employees should this revised policy be approved by the UC Regents. If approved, implementation is expected in May or June, 2008.
