The Office of the CIO and the campus Information Technology Architecture Committee (ITAC) are pleased to announce the availability of the following information technology services from Burton Group, an organization that provides in-depth, vendor-independent research and advisory services focused on enterprise IT infrastructure technologies:
- Application Platform Strategies (APS): This research and advisory service focuses on planning and building general-purpose infrastructure for managing distributed applications across disparate platforms and technologies that may span intranets and extranets. It covers topics such as Java/Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), Microsoft .NET, Web services, and service-oriented architecture (SOA).
- Collaboration and Content Strategies (CCS): This service focuses on the complex set of decisions facing IT strategists in order to ensure that collaboration and content solutions gain broad user adoption, are extensible by developers, and leverage common infrastructure services while enabling applications that satisfy business needs. This requires a pragmatic approach that balances vendor and product maturity against emerging technologies that present both opportunity and risk.
- Identity and Privacy Strategies (IdPS): This research and advisory service focuses on planning and building general-purpose infrastructure for managing and applying identity information, and supporting the identity lifecycle. It covers topics such as identity management, access management, directory services, authentication, federated identity, privacy, and personalization.
These services are available to all UC Berkeley employees via a Burton Group license the campus has recently obtained, however registration is required. To register, go to the Burton Group Client Registration web page.
ITAC will use these services, as well as other information sources, to develop architectural roadmaps and specific technology life cycle assessments, and to understand current technology trends in these areas. This information will help ITAC in fulfilling its charge.
