The Payroll/Personnel System (PPS) is tentatively scheduled to move from the Berkeley campus mainframe to that of the UC Office of the President (UCOP) on May 9, 2009. Moving the system from the campus mainframe to UCOP's mainframe will result in improved efficiencies and cost savings.
What will this mean to you? This move will not affect employees directly. However, users of the Online Payroll Time Reporting System (OPTRS) will need to make minor adjustments. OPTRS users are urged to take this opportunity to review the subtle changes that will occur, and to take any necessary steps should these changes impact their own processes and interfaces.
-
New User IDs. Customers that use the Payroll/Personnel System (PPS) will be assigned new User IDs for use after the system migrates in May. We anticipate issuing new User IDs to all PPS customers in May.
-
New HostExplorer setting. When the PPS system moves to UCOP, the settings within HostExplorer (how users log onto the PSS system) will need to be changed. You do not need to change your settings at this time. Instructions for configuring HostExplorer will also be sent in May.
Look for future messages concerning this migration, new User IDs, and information about changing your HostExplorer settings.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: After the migration, will my screen look different?
A: No. The look, feel, and function of PPS will remain the same.
Q: After the migration, how will I print?
A: You will continue to print as you always have printed.
Q: Will PageCenter change because of the move?
A: Your PageCenter logon ID, passphrase, and logon screen will
continue to operate as before, using your CalNet ID. However, all
pagesets generated by PPS jobs running at UCOP will be named
differently than pagesets generated by PPS jobs running at UC
Berkeley. Pagesets generated by PPS jobs running at UCOP will have
the same name as the report ID, e.g., PPP5302.
Q: If I have access to a CICS region for testing, will I continue to have access?
A: No. You will have to work through Central Payroll for testing.
