As a member of the UC Berkeley campus community, if you haven't already done so, you must self select a personal CalNet ID this month, January 2009. Users who have not self-selected a personal ID by the end of January will receive a reminder prompt when they authenticate to many campus applications. Beginning February 25, users will be directed the CalNet Change ID application before they are permitted to log in.
Choosing a personal ID is easy. Log into the Change ID application on the CalNet website and follow the prompts provided.
The campus Identity and Access Management Steering Committee approved this project as a way to:
- Reduce exposure of student and employee IDs.
- Create a lifelong ID for campus members (the CalNet ID will also be used by alumni and retirees).
- Reduce confusion users currently experience when changing their affiliation with the campus (which includes a change in their active ID).
- Facilitate the integration of key campus systems.
