CRT Replacement project phase II
As part of an overall campus effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the Vice Chancellor's Administrative Council (VCAC), the Office of the CIO (OCIO), and Cal Overstock and Surplus are sponsoring a project to replace CRT monitors on campus with energy-efficient LCD monitors. A replacement credit of $20.00 is available for every LCD monitor purchased by September 25, 2009, in combination with the trade-in of a working CRT monitor. September 16, 2009.
Green computing: Decreasing IT-related energy consumption on campus
After spending six months researching computing practices at UC Berkeley and other leading institutions, the 2008 Leadership Development Program's Go Green team published a report detailing recommendations for managing changes in strategy, infrastructure, and culture to decrease IT-related energy consumption. Update: Limited offer to replace current CRT monitors
The special offer on LCD monitors announced in the article Limited offer to replace current CRT monitors was even more popular than we had imagined. All 150 monitors have been requested. We will be offering a similar program after the first of the year. September 23, 2008.
Campus directory goes green!
As part of our ongoing efforts to save our environment and underscore our fiscal responsibilities, IST has decided to go green with the campus directory. We will now only maintain an online directory and will no longer produce a printed directory. July 8, 2008.
