The start of the semester is a peak period that corresponds to increased load on our infrastructure combined with high levels of anxiety for incoming students. To minimize the potential for disruption during this time, IST is implementing a two-week freeze on changes impacting student systems. The freeze will be in effect from 7:00 am, Friday, August 14, 2009, through 5:00 pm, Friday, August 28, 2009. August 14, 2009.
The IST Storage team will discuss the services their group offers. Attendees are encouraged to submit questions in advance to August 14, 2009.
CalNetPKI is a free IST service that provides a certificate authority to the campus for use in a variety of security-related tasks. Available certificates include those that are used for code signing, encrypting websites via SSL, digitally signing and encrypting email, encrypting files with EFS, and securing network traffic with IPSec. Effective immediately, IST commits to a two- to three-year unchanging rate when implementing new recharge services, and notice of at least one-year before discontinuing any recharge services. August 10, 2009.
The CalMail service began transitioning to CalNet authentication at 6:00 am Monday, August 3, 2009, with the cutover of the webmail clients to CAS. The IST Service Desk has extra CalNet deputies on hand to assist those who have forgo tten their CalNet IDs and passphrases. Users of departmental accounts that have not yet been switched over to the CalNet authentication system can use a legacy URL to temporariliy access those accounts. August 4, 2009.
The CollectionSpace project team has released version 0.1 of its open-source collection management system for museums. This Hello World release focuses on tying the technology layers together around the function of basic object entry. Those interested in collections are encouraged to experiment with the Hello World release and provide feedback to the project team. CollectionSpace is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The campus license for the Proventsure software suite, the tool campus users currently use to identify restricted data stored on campus computer systems, will expire July 31, 2009. IdentityFinder is the replacement tool that is now available free of charge to the campus community. July 22, 2009.
Beginning August 3, 2009, CalMail will transition to CalNet authentication and participate in CalNet's campuswide single sign-on system, CAS. This transition will continue until September 30, 2009, when users will no longer need to remember a separate password to access their email. July 17, 2009.
The campus's strategy to support collaboration through information technology is focused on building our readiness to "plug-in" new and innovative collaborative tools into research, teaching and learning, public service, and campus business. Among its goals are to enhance identity management, improve access to campus data for use in collaborative activities, provide clarity on when and how our data can be stored and used outside campus borders, and build communities to help guide the selection and productive use of collaborative tools.
