Open house March 2-6 for new campus technology store

IST invites all Berkeley campus faculty and staff to attend a week-long open house event to kick off the opening of The Scholar's Workstation's Technology Store for Departments. Located in the MLK Jr. Student Union, the new walk-in store will supplement the online services offered by TSW. March 2-6, 2009, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. February 28, 2009.

UCCSC 2009 presentation proposal deadline extended to February 27

The theme of the 2009 UC Computing Services Conference (UCCSC) is "Focus on Security". Information about submitting proposals for presentations, demos, tutorials, or hands-on labs can be found on the UCCSC 2009 Proposal information and submission page. February 20, 2009.

Request for interest: Apple iMac coordinated campus buy

IST's Technology Acquisition & Sales unit (TAS) seeks your interest in a coordinated campus buy of select Apple iMac computers, offered at significantly reduced prices. If your administrative or academic divisions are considering upgrading with an Apple all-in-one desktop system, this might be a good opportunity. The offer involves the coordination of a single campus order of a minimum of 50 units, choosing from two models: the iMac, 20-inch, 2.4GHz, and the iMac 20-inch, 2.66GHz. February 17, 2009.

DOCS Hardware Support ends on-site repair service

DOCS has concluded that the existing volume of repair requests cannot support an on-site technician provided by ComputerCare and is ending the pilot service first announced in November. Effective immediately, DOCS will receive hardware and facilitate repair with ComputerCare. January 23, 2009.

Self-select a personal CalNet ID

As a member of the UC Berkeley campus community, if you haven't already done so, you must self select a personal CalNet ID this month, January 2009. Failure to do so will eventually lead to your inability to use any campus service that requires a CalNet ID. January 20, 2009.

CalMail disk quota space increased to 1 GiB

IST is pleased to announce the immediate increase of default CalMail disk quota space from 250 MiB to 1 GiB for all current UC Berkeley faculty, staff, students, and affiliates. January 16, 2009.

Socrates and Arachne retirement update

Pine email service on Socrates will end January 31. Websites hosted on Socrates and Arachne are no longer publicly available, however, you may still access your files until January 31 in order to move your site. Socrates service has been extended until the end of February for those using the statistical and math packages. January 16, 2009.

New location for The Scholar's Workstation -- Grand opening Thursday at noon

Staff and faculty interested in individual purchases of computers, software, and peripheral equipment at academic discount prices are invited to the new TSW@The Cal Student Store in the ASUC's Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Union. Information regarding departmental purchases is available on The Scholar's Workstation website. January 13, 2009.

End of IST modem service

As of Friday, December 19, 2008, with the termination of the SHIPS Service and the Low Cost Modem Service, IST no longer offers any modem services to the campus. December 22, 2008.

Hosting services on Socrates and Arachne ends December 19

Web-hosting services on Socrates and Arachne ends Friday, December 19, 2008. Websites on these servers will not be publicly available after this date. If you have not moved your site yet and are interested in an IST-hosted solution, please visit the Socrates and Arachne Technical Solutions page and review the steps to migrate to IST's pilot program hosted at Dreamhost.
