DOCS Hardware Support year-end schedule

DOCS Hardware Support will be closed from December 15, 2008, until January 6, 2009. Drop-off service will resume at their new location, 2484 Shattuck Avenue, on January 7. On-site repair service will resume January 12. December 17, 2008.

iPhone AirBears app released

IST–TAS is pleased to announce the release of the iPhone AirBears utility, which allows secure access to the campus AirBears wireless network from an iPhone or iPod. Please use this application instead of the un-vetted EZ Wi-Fi for accessing AirBears. December 17, 2008.

Security alert update: Internet Explorer 0-Day exploit

Microsoft has released Security Update for Internet Explorer (960714) to address the vulnerability in all currently supported versions of Internet Explorer. The patch is available from the campus WSUS service. December 17, 2008.

Security alert: Internet Explorer 0-Day exploit

A new Internet Explorer (IE) exploit is being used to compromise Windows systems. At this time, the only preventative option available is to use a browser other than IE such as Firefox, Opera, or Safari. Microsoft has announced it will release an out-of-cycle patch for this bug tomorrow, December 17. System and Network Security strongly encourages everyone who uses IE to be sure to apply this patch as soon as it becomes available. December 16, 2008.

AWS service extension request requirements

The CalNet team will discontinue AWS service on January 5, 2009. If
you have an application that will continue to need AWS after January 5, you must take specific steps to request an exception by no later than January 2. December 15, 2008.

Self select a new CalNet ID in January 2009

As a member of the campus community, if you have not already done so, you will need to choose a new CalNet ID in January 2009. December 12, 2008.

CalNet Guest accounts - call for campus input

The CalNet Guest Account Task Force is soliciting campus input in order to establish clear requirements for a guest account management system in CalNet. Responses are appreciated by December 24. December 5, 2008.

Changes at The Scholar's Workstation

Effective spring 2009, the Scholar's Workstation will become a part of the Lower Sproul Plaza Student Union retail area operated by the ASUC and its campus bookstore agent, Follett. TSW @ the Cal Student Store will have a new retail space for all individual sales, and a separate dedicated location to serve campus institutional/departmental sales. December 5, 2008.

Information Services and Technology (IST) holiday schedule 2008-2009

Many IST facilities will be closed or operating on modified schedules in late December and early January due to the semester break, University holidays, and the campuswide energy curtailment. December 5, 2008.

Announcing the new director of IST-Application Services

JR Schulden, who, for the last year, has been serving as interim director for IST–Application Services, has accepted the position as Application Services Director, effective November 1, 2008. December 1, 2008.
