The CalShare User Manager Service gives authorized CalNet account holders the ability to create CalShare user accounts that can be used to access content hosted in CalShare sites. This service will be very helpful for CalShare users who need to grant access to their CalShare site to people outside UC Berkeley who do not have CalNet IDs or other CalNet AD accounts. Under the provisions of a new policy developed by the Office of the Registrar, the Graduate Division, and CalNet, students who withdraw or cancel their registration at Berkeley to conduct approved research or to attend an institution abroad through a program other than UC's Education Abroad Program are eligible for extended CalMail access. Due to reductions in permanent state funding, the IST Service Desk will eliminate its weekend and extended service hours. Effective October 1, 2008, the new service hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. September 2, 2008.

UC Berkeley instituted a new alerting and warning service on August 25 to help keep the campus community informed in an immediate crisis. Called WarnMe, the new campus service proactively contacts individual students, faculty, and staff to warn them of situations on or near campus that may pose an immediate threat to their safety. IST is looking at CalDAV-based open-source calendaring systems as possible replacements for Oracle Calendar, the calendaring system currently being used for CalAgenda, and is seeking campus input. August 22, 2008.
